Seeing, feeling and experiencing technology: it happened during the Career Days in Zwolle on Thursday 16 and Friday 17 June. Almost 450 HAVO4 and VWO5 pupils were introduced to technology companies from the entire region. “The enthusiasm we create here cannot be captured in a brochure! says Arend Luten of participating company Tembo.
With Spot the robot dog, Arend managed to attract the pupils’ attention. At Tembo, they are constantly working on the technology of the future, and that needs people. “We try to bring as many students as possible into contact with technology. A Career Day is the perfect place for that. We as Tembo are very happy that we can stand here with a workshop,” he says. During the workshop the students can control Spot themselves; they let the robot dog walk, jump and do tricks. “We of course have the ultimate device to enthuse those students,” he says.
Career guides
The two days are divided into a morning and an afternoon programme. Each group of about ten students meets three companies during an interactive workshop and is accompanied by a Career Guide. This student from Windesheim University of Applied Sciences can tell the students everything about his technical study and why he is so enthusiastic about it. Gerard Post, third-year student of Civil Engineering, would have liked to have experienced this himself as a high school student. “When the students are interacting, you really notice that they become enthusiastic,” he says. Besides being a Career Guide on Friday, he was also present with a workshop at the Career Day on behalf of Windesheim University of Applied Sciences on Thursday.

Enthusiastic participating companies
Twelve companies gave a workshop during the Career Days in Zwolle. From piloting robot dog Spot and VR glasses to building strong bridges and a tyre quiz: the participating companies showed all sides of technique and technology. Besides the Perron038 partner companies VMI, AWL, Hollander Techniek, Robertpack, Tembo, Zuidberg, TRICAS and Windesheim University of Applied Sciences, Agentschap Telecom, Broshuis, the Province of Drenthe and Royal HaskoningDHV also gave a workshop.
Two succesful days
Ivo Solinger and Marike van Wezenberg, regional coordinators of Jet-Net & TechNet, organised the Career Days in cooperation with Perron038. They look back on two very successful days. Marike says: “It is great to see the enthusiasm of the students. We also notice that teachers are happy with events like the Career Days. They see their students actively getting to know employees of technological companies. Perron038 is also an enormously inspiring location with a lot going on. Pupils just see a lot of innovative things here. In this way, they get a broad and complete picture of what engineering and technology are all about.”
The Careerdays will be organised again in the spring of 2023! Participate as a school or company? Let us know via talent@perron038.nl.
